Elastic properties of cellular dissipative structure

چکیده
Transition towards spatio-temporal chaos in one-dimensional interfacial patterns often involves two degrees of freedom: drift and out-of-phase oscillations of cells, respectively associated to parity breaking and vacillating-breathing secondary bifurcations. In this paper, the interaction between these two modes is investigated in the case of a single domain propagating along a circular array of liquid jets. As observed by Michalland and Rabaud for the printer’s instability [1], the velocity Vg of a constant width domain is linked to the angular frequency ω of oscillations and to the spacing between columns λ0 by the relationship Vg = αλ0ω. We show by a simple geometrical argument that α should be close to 1/π instead of the initial value α = 1/2 deduced from their analogy with phonons. This fact is in quantitative agreement with our data, with a slight deviation increasing with flow rate. Study of Stone-wales Defect on Elastic Properties of Single-layer Graphene Sheets by an Atomistic based Finite Element Model
In this paper, an atomistic based finite element model is developed to investigate the influence of topological defects on mechanical properties of graphene. The general in-plane stiffness matrix of the hexagonal network structure of graphene is found. Effective elastic modulus of a carbon ring is determined from the equivalence of molecular potential energy related to stretch and angular defor...
متن کاملEstimation of the Elastic Properties of Important Calcium Silicate Hydrates in Nano Scale - a Molecular Dynamics Approach
Approximately, 50 to 70 percent of hydration products in hydrated cement paste are polymorphisms of C-S-H gel. It is highly influential in the final properties of hardened cement paste. Distinguishing C-S-H nano-structure significantly leads to determine its macro scale ensemble properties. This paper is dealt with nano-scale modeling. To achieve this, the most important C-S-H compounds, with a...

متن کاملStructures and visco-elastic properties of potassium tellurite: glass versus melt
The structure and visco-elastic properties of K2Te4O9 have been examined as a function of temperature, using neutron scattering and Brillouin light scattering, respectively. The neutron scattering data indicate that the coordination of tellurium by oxygen changes notably once the material is heated above the glass transition temperature. This and the associated decrease in elastic modulus are c...
